COPY/PASTE a Preeti Font text in Google Docs

Have you come across a situation where you have a .pdf or .docx or an .odt or any word file with text in  Preeti font and then you have to open the file or copy the texts in Google Docs?

This is a very complicated use case to explain actually. I have come across this situation multiple times. You might have as well. I have explained the process to few other random people in Facebook groups. So today, when a very lovely friend 💗 of mine was trying to copy some text in Preeti font into Google Docs, she asked me for help. And being an equally lovely and helpful friend 😎 , I guided her.

This made me think writing a blog explaining the process so that next time when I come across this problem or someone else asks me for help, I can just send the blog. Better no? Plus, honestly, I myself am going to be confused about this process after a few months. So as a reminder to myself as well.

So here are the simple steps:

  1. Below is an example of a Preeti font in  a .pdf file.
  2. If I open the above .pdf file in a Google Doc or copy the text into Google Doc, I get the following; some stupid unreadable English alphabets. That's basically just Nepali Unicode. Now, let's see how we can make it readable in Nepali.
  3. First COPY the text that you want to convert. I am using 'l;kmfl/z' as an example here.
  4. Go to this link. https://www.ashesh.com.np/unicode-preeti/
  5. If you don't have Preeti font installed in your computer, make sure you install it. You can download from here
  6. In the website of UNICODE TO PREETI, paste the text copied before ('l;kmfl/z') in the first box.

  7. Click on 'Click here to convert to Preeti font'.

You will see the correct text 'सिफारिस' now. Copy this text.
  8. Now we will convert the Preeti font back to Nepali Unicode to be used in Google Docs. Go to this link: https://www.ashesh.com.np/preeti-unicode/
  9. In the PREETI TO UNICODE website, paste the previously copied text from second box of previous website ('सिफारिस') and paste in the first box of the second website. Note the colors in two different website if you are confused.

  10. Click on "Click here to convert nepali unicode".

  11. Congratulations! You made it. Woo-hoo!!! 🎉🥳 Now you can just copy the text from the second box and paste it into a Google Doc.
  12. In the screenshot below from a Google Doc, notice the previous text 'l;kmfl/z' replaced by correct Nepali word 'सिफारिश'?

NOTES:

1. If you are copying the text (e.g. à¤¸िफारिश ) from a .pdf file, you can skip to STEP 8 directly.
2. There might be other ways of doing it, I am pretty sure. This looks like a tedious process, honestly. Let me know if you know of any other ways.
3. Thanks to Ashesh for creating this awesome tool. It's been almost a decade since I have been using it. :)

Timi Uta Ma Yeta (Sunsaan Raat Ma) Guitar Chords - Pratik Gurung Cover - Original by Milan Newar, Rajan Raj Shiwakoti

I came across this song when Kanden Limbu sang this in Nepal Idol.  He was one of the contestants. I thought it was his original. Surprisingly, it is not. His was based on Pratik Gurung's cover. This is actually a full fledge song with a music video. Here's the original one. However, I like the cover version. Here are the chords for a portion of the song. The chords are based on this tutorial . In the tutorial, plucking is used. You can strum as well if that's what you prefer.  CAPO: 2nd fret STRUMMING: D-DU Plucking used: 5-2-3 (C and Am), 4-2-3 (FT and GT), 6-2-3 (G) Chords: C, Am, G Major, F Major Triad (FT), G Major Triad (GT) NOTE: It's easier if you play G Major in C's original position; just move 2 and 3 fingers one step up.   C                             Am (Sunsan raat ma yo mero aatma FT               GT    C Chasakka bijheko mayalu C                             Am Timlai nai samjhi ma ruda ruda FT       GT   C Sirani bhijheko ) x 2 C
