Friend Poverty

Friend Poverty

"One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks close than a brother."

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but only a true friend would help you pick your nose. There is something unique and irreplaceable about a friendship. Your family has an interest in your success as they may automatically share in the fruit of your labour.  Friends however gravitate to you for you. Not because they have to but they chose to.

Few things in all life compare with the satisfaction and joy of being deeply loved for who you are. Equally as important is the opportunity to love deeply the friends in your life for who they are regardless of what they can do for you. If circumstances determine the status of your friendship with others or others' relationship with you, there is a greater richness yet to be discovered.

People are people and will always be capable of disappointing you. It is through these fires that a real friendship is revealed. You can choose to be friends when everything on earth is trying to keep you from maintaining the relationship. Yet, there are times when the most loving thing you can do is separate or part ways with friends. If we truly love and care for the best interest of those around us, we will let them move on or let them remain while we move on. It has been said that we become the average of the people we consider friends. If this is true, the impact of who we allow access to our lives should be considered carefully.

A great friend isn't found, they are made. In long hours, giving and receiving, hurting and healing, a true friend is made. Regardless of the distance or time that separates friends, they can pick up again where they left off without missing a single step. They are bound by a commitment to care and show interest in each other regardless of the circumstances. The secret to having a friend like this is being a friend like this.

It is important that we realize that there is nothing quite like an authentic and selfless friendship. There are incomparable benefits and risks that come with a friendship such as this.Yet, nothing of value comes without  expense or risk. The secret of maintaining such a rich relationship is adopting someone into your life and considering them your brother, your sister regardless of the blood in their veins.

Benefits of a rich friendship
  • You increase the joy in your life as you will be able to celebrate life's amazing events with others outside of your family.
  • You will learn what it takes to truly love people for who they are and not where they came from.
  • When life becomes challenging you will be able to call on a large network for help.
  • The unrefined characteristics in your won life will be challenged and addressed by friends that love you enough to call you out.
Possible steps to build rich friendships
  • Spend time , ask your friends about their dreams or challenges they are facing lately.
  • Find a way to help your friend(s) achieve a dream or goal that they have.
  • Make a commitment to work on any areas in your life that your friends think could improve.
  • Make a commitment to support and love a friend regardless of the challenges they face or choices they make in the future.
