Family Poverty

via CloudFactory - Poverty Solutions

Better a dry crust of bread with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting and fighting.

Ever heard the expression, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts? The idea is that when you put individual components together, the result is more useful or beneficial than the components by themselves. Flour, water, salt , sugar, oil, and yeast aren't very satisfying on their own, Put them together in the right conditions and you got yourself a loaf of bread. If your family was a bread recipe, would you have all the ingredients needed for a complete loaf?

A basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents, rearing their children is how a family is defined in social sciences. Statistics on children raised without a loving father and mother are overwhelming. Fatherless boys and girls are: twice as likely to drop out of school twice as likely to end up in j ail; four times more likely to need help for emotional or behavioral problems. Motherless children are more likely to suffer sexual abuse, hardship in adult relationships and difficulty raising their own children.

Growing up in financial, physical hardships has lifelong effects on a child. likewise growing up without involved and consistent emotional care has an impact on a person. The family is the building block of society. The majority of our beliefs/values come from our experiences with our family.

Our families can be a source of joy and inspiration, support and accountability. They can be a place where you belong and find shelter when faced with the inevitable hardships of life.

Our families can be a place where deep scars of fear and mistrust, doubt and confusion, pain and loneliness will paralyze us. These scars may keep us from running into the world with confidence and expecting great things ahead.

When the building blocks we are using to form our society are not complete or damage the blocks around them there are consequences. We cannot build something that will last . When the blocks of society are strong, reliable, and make everything they touch better, there is no end to the great things that will come.

We cannot undo what has been done to us by our family, both good and bad. However we can learn from it and use that knowledge to help others. A family poor in finances yet rich in relationship is more fulfilling than a family rich in finances but poor in relationship. Yet, we can be rich in both.

Benefits of a rich Family Life
  1. Higher likelihood of being successful in your future endeavors, your future family life, and the success of your children.
  2. More opportunities will come to you and your family as you will be seen as resource in your community.
  3. Have a place to berefreshed and restored after a long day, week, month or year.

Possible steps for reducing family poverty
  1. Forgive. Reconnect. Star Over.
  2. Ask your family what they would like to change as a family and make commitment to stick with it for 6 weeks.
  3. Make a list of all the relatives and family members you haven't spoken within a long time. Commit to calling, emailing, writing them and ask how they are doing.
  4. Commit to loving your family regardless of how you are treatd by them.
