Smiley marks - The Sindhupalchowk Diary

The Sindhupalchowk Diary

Smiley marks

At the Mini Learning Institute, or Mili as we fellows call it, I realized that I haven’t assessed my students yet. The diagnostic test didn't happen. It had been about 2 weeks since I ‘actually’ started teaching. Then I had thought of taking test every week. Yes, that meant I had to spare one whole period every week. And with the pace I was going, just a period was critical. But I had to make a decision. I decided to do weekly tests.

I took my first test in Grade 6 English today. Evening-the test papers were in my hand. I took my red pen and checked the first paper. It was paper of a very low achieving student. I was about to give marks.

“Does this Number mark really help him at all? Won’t he be discouraged by these low marks? He will probably get teased for the low marks.”
“Number Mark is very robotic. Even a robot could check the papers and give marks. What can I do different to reach to a personal level? What can I do to make them feel that I care about them?”
I use a lot of smileys when I chat or text. J Why not use the same smiley to grade the papers? And thus, I started the Smiley Mark.

Very Low performance: :( :(
Low performance: :(
Average: :)

High Performance: :) :)

A comment would be added wherever necessary, and in all the papers if possible. Focus would be on constructive feedbacks (that would help him/her improve) rather than pointing out mistakes. Improvements would be highly appreciated.

Timi Uta Ma Yeta (Sunsaan Raat Ma) Guitar Chords - Pratik Gurung Cover - Original by Milan Newar, Rajan Raj Shiwakoti

I came across this song when Kanden Limbu sang this in Nepal Idol.  He was one of the contestants. I thought it was his original. Surprisingly, it is not. His was based on Pratik Gurung's cover. This is actually a full fledge song with a music video. Here's the original one. However, I like the cover version. Here are the chords for a portion of the song. The chords are based on this tutorial . In the tutorial, plucking is used. You can strum as well if that's what you prefer.  CAPO: 2nd fret STRUMMING: D-DU Plucking used: 5-2-3 (C and Am), 4-2-3 (FT and GT), 6-2-3 (G) Chords: C, Am, G Major, F Major Triad (FT), G Major Triad (GT) NOTE: It's easier if you play G Major in C's original position; just move 2 and 3 fingers one step up.   C                             Am (Sunsan raat ma yo mero aatma FT               GT    C Chasakka bi...
